Auto-Complete Field with jQuery, JSON & PHP

May 5th, 2007

In the last few days I’ve started using the jQuery JavaScript library. To experiment with this great piece of software I’ve decided to implement an AJAX auto-complete feature. jQuery makes remote scripting a piece of cake and that led me to spend more time coding additional functionalities for the auto-complete field. In this post I’ll explain how to use my auto-complete field and in a following post I’ll explain all the code. So let’s start!

Back and Recast

May 2nd, 2007

Hello, this is my first post since the return of my blog. Different from before, when I used to post about my life and friends, now I’ll try to post some interesting and useful stuff for the community. Things that I have coded and learned during the years and that now are lost in the deepest folders of my hard drives will also appear.

At first, the idea is to post things related mainly to web development and programming, but it’s not a strict rule. I’ll try to keep posts constant and I’d like to hear back from you, even to correct my English mistakes.

If you want to know a little more about this blog take a look at the About page.

See you!

About

May 2nd, 2007

Hi! So you are looking for some information about me and my blog right? Fair enough. I’ll try to give you an idea about me and also tell you some facts about my path up to this blog.

I’m an Electric Electronic Engineer from Brazil that enjoys programming since it was introduced to me by my father many years ago. I’m around web development for almost 7 years with seasonal periods of intense work and some periods just as a spectator, watching and learning, messing around with desktop and embedded programming, improving my hobbies and other skills.

This blog is focused in programming but will hold anything I feel that is worth sharing. The main goal of this site is to put in motion my love for teaching. I have always liked to teach others whatever I know and this is a try to extend it. Be clear that I’m no master of any kind but I try to build a good base of knowledge to understand the basics of our world.

Now you may ask why ‘fromvega’. It’s a nickname that I chose many years ago after watching the movie Contact, from Carl Sagan. It was a wonderful movie that led me to read and love the spectacular homonymous book. It was that kind of thing that there is no fully explanation but that sticks with you for a long time.

That’s it. I’ll try to keep posts constant and I’d like to hear back from you, even to correct my English mistakes. I hope this blog lasts!

Thank you for passing by.

See you around!

ET and MeLuiz A Brandão Jr,

aka. fromvega.
